Jasper is the traditional birthstone of the first month of Spring. Ancient Hebrew tradition refers to jasper as March birthstone, which means that this natural stone is beneficial in many ways for the people who are born in March.
Jasper is one of the most beloved stones in many ancient civilizations and was used in ceremonies and rituals. It was believed to hold unique magic powers. We read about it in ancient holy scripts and in the Bible.
In Old Testament, we find the Breastplate of Aaron, which was adorned with 12 precious and semi-precious stones. God ordered Aaron's brother, Moses to create a magnificent piece, in which the gemstones were to be attached in four rows of three and each gem was to have the name of a tribe inscribed upon it. It was a sacred breastplate, named "The Breastplate of Judgement", worn by the High Priest of the Israelites, according to the Book of Exodus. The twelve gemstones were representing each one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Historians connect the twelve stones of the breast-piece with the 12 months of the year and the 12 signs of the zodiac circle.
In the Book of Revelation 21:19-20 we read about the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem, in the order of the Roman Calendar:
"And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst."
People born in March would rather have a jasper to protect and empower them. It comes in a variety of colors, from warm earthy tones to bold red or green. Jasper is known as the "Supreme Nurturer", a stone that provides stability, security and comfort. A stone of grounding, connected with Mother Earth and Nature Spirits.
It is said to promote courage and give strength. Many refer to jasper as the "Stone of the Warrior", instilling values like loyalty and justice. Protecting from any physical or spiritual harm, jasper is a stone to help the holder keep healthy and strong.
